Your Rwanda Safari journey continues to Lake Kivu, where you will immerse yourself in the beautiful atmosphere of the lake and witness the local people as they go on with their fishing excursions.

Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days in Nyungwe Forest and Lake Kivu Safari
Day 1: Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport or after breakfast, you will be met by our Driver-Guide and embark on a journey south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way you will have a stop in Butare for lunch and visit the Rwandan National Museum and the King’s Palace in Nyanza. Arrive in the park in the evening, and check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
After breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking, then head into the forest in search of chimpanzees led by armed rangers and guides. Chimpanzees are very lively and playful primates, and the trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more, when you see them, you will be allowed to spend only one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom each other.
After 1 hour you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will go for a canopy walk on the famous Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walkway Bridge, a swing bridge that is 50 metres long and suspended from big trees. During the walk you will enjoy scenic views of the breathtaking rainforest from above and primates moving below you. The Nyungwe Forest Canopy Walk experience takes a two-hour hike.
Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Gisenyi and Afternoon Boat ride on Lake Kivu
After a leisurely breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a four-hour journey to Gisenyi Town situated on the shores of Lake Kivu, arriving in time for lunch at your hotel. In the afternoon you will go on a boat cruise on Lake Kivu.
A boat cruise on Lake Kivu gives you an opportunity to discover the lake’s islands and wildlife. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Morning Coffee Tour and Transfer back to Kigali
After a delicious breakfast, check out of your lodge and go for a coffee tour in Gisenyi’s Kinunu Washing Station. Discover more about the coffee-making process in Rwanda by taking a tour of the facilities and learning about the harvesting, processing and packaging stages. Enjoy a nice cup of coffee as you wrap up your coffee tour, and consider buying some locally produced coffee to help the community. After lunch, you will make your way back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at the airport for your departure flight back home or to your next destination.
