Detailed itinerary
DAY 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali city or Kigali international airport to transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time to embark on the boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you will see game like hippopotamuses and elephants quenching their thirst from the riverbanks, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoebill stork, the king fishers and many other water birds that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. DAY 2: Full day Game drive and a night game drive
Rise up early in the morning have breakfast and go for a morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill, especially the big cats like the leopard, lions and many other carnivores. You will get to watch a number of herbivores like the rhinos grazing within the plains, elephants, gazelles, oribis and many other rewarding game animals. After the morning game drives, you will head back to your hotel for refreshments and later in the afternoon transfer to take part in the evening game drive. Get ready to watch how the park comes to life as the sun sets with a number of predators coming from their hiding spots to catch prey, the herbivores catching their last bite for the day, the crocodiles can be seen sunbathing, and elephants quenching their thirst from the riverbanks, which will make your safari quite memorable. Later in the evening, you will participate in the night game drive, which will give you the chance to watch how the park gets to life when the sun sets, which will give you access to a number of different attractions, from the carnivores like lions, leopards and other nocturnal animals catching their prey. Day 3: Half game drive and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After an amazing lunch at your accommodation facility, get ready to make your way back to Kigali city. You can participate in a half game drive to watch the species in the wild that you might have missed out on during the game drive. After the activity, you will make your way to the park, having lunch en-route and later transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in the Ibyi’wacu cultural village tour. Have a guided walk around the village at the different sites that exhibit the different aspects of the people of the village to have insight about the interesting features of the culture of the people of Rwanda. You can also get the chance to visit the Musanze caves, which have rich cultural attributes which will give you the opportunity to understand more about the history of the people of Rwanda; the caves were used as coronation grounds for the Kings of Rwanda. Day 4: Golden monkey trekking in Rwanda
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up from your hotel. our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters, where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. To be quite different from the gorillas in the wild, the mountain gorillas. the golden monkeys are found in the higher elevations in the bamboo trees; hence, the hike to their habitat will help you cover more area. When you get to the habituated troops, you will take their pictures and later transfer back to your starting point, where you will be presented with your trekking permit and later connect to your guide to transfer you back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will make your way to the park headquarters, where you will participate in the briefing session for your gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda. You will connect with the Rdb officials to brief you about your gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda and the rules and regulations to follow during your gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda. The rangers will lead you deep into the forest in search of the Gorillas. You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these gentle giants whose company you will cherish for 1 hour. The activity in Rwanda takes between 3 and 7 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Which you will observe as they carry out their different activities. After a rewarding experience, head back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Nature walks and transfer back to Kigali city
After an early morning breakfast, you will then make your way to the park to participate in a half-day nature walk which will help you discover a number of different attractions from the different bird species, like the blue turaco, Ross’s turaco, coqui Francolin, long-tailed cisticola, bubbling cisticola, Miombo wren warbler, Chubb’s cisticola and many other bird species. You will also get to watch primate species and if you’re lucky enough, you will get the chance to watch the primates like the mona monkey, vervet monkey, Hamlyn’s monkey, Dent’s monkey and many other rewarding attractions. After the safari experience, you will make your way to transfer back to Kigali city, where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in the city and at the end of your 6 days Akagera National Park and Volcanoes National Park safari.
