How To Get To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Uganda?

When one thinks about Ugandan tourism, one of the first sites that comes to mind is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The national park is home to half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas, making it a popular destination for travelers visiting Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in Kanungu district in the south-western section of Uganda. It is one of Uganda’s ten national parks and is maintained by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Bwindi was designated a national park in 1991 and a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994 owing to its ecological significance. The park is noted for having the most mountain gorillas, who can be found in four sectors: Ruhija in the east, Nkuringo in the south, Buhoma in the north, and Rushaga in the south. Each area has many habituated gorilla families that may be visited on a regular basis.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park provides guests with a variety of activities to do on their safari, including gorilla trekking, which is the main activity, bird viewing, nature walks, and the Batwa path experience, among others.

How to get to Bwindi impenetrable national park?

The Bwindi National Park in Uganda may be reached by road or air.

Road transportation, there are several road transportation routes available while visiting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, including;

Route from Kampala via Kabale, Kanungu

This route will take you from Kampala to one of the park’s sections through Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, and Kanungu. On a tarmac road, the travel takes roughly 8 to 10 hours. Though the drive is long, it is loaded with lovely scenery, homesteads, plantations, local people, farmlands, Kigezi highlands, and other sights.

Route from Kampala via Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Kihihi

Visitors will travel from Kampala through Masaka, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Kihihi, and then to Buhoma sector or any of the sectors, which will take 8 to 10 hours.

Visitors traveling from Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese district can also reach the national park. When traveling from Queen, you will pass via the Ishasha sector in the park’s southern section, where you will be able to see tree climbing lions lying up on the fig, acacia tree branches. The drive from Mweya sector in Queen Elizabeth National Park to Buhoma sector in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes around 3 to 4 hours and offers spectacular views of tree climbing lions, landscapes, bird species, and animals, among other things.

You can also use public transportation to get to Bwindi, though it is not recommended; therefore, if you want to use public transportation, you will board a bus from Kampala bus station to Kabale and then hire a private taxi to the park headquarters if you want to trek gorillas in Ruhija sector; you can also board a bus from Kampala to Butogota and then hire a private taxi to the park headquarters if you want to visit gorillas in Buhoma sector;

Travelling to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park using air transport.

Air transport, Domestic airlines in Uganda, like as Aerolink Uganda Limited and Bar Aviation, conduct daily scheduled and charter flights from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi airfield to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip, from whence you may connect by road to the park headquarters. Flights from Entebbe airport depart at 7:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 12:00 noon, respectively, and arrive at Kihihi airstrip at 8:45 a.m., 11:25 a.m., and 14:40 p.m.

Return flights from Kihihi airstrip depart at 9:45 a.m., 11:40 a.m., and 14:45 p.m., respectively, and arrive in Entebbe airport at 11:25 a.m., 13:30 p.m., and 16:15 p.m. For those who dislike long distance excursions, air travel is the finest mode of transportation.

Flying to Bwindi National Park

Visitors can also approach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by flying to Kigali International Airport and then connecting by road to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Cyanika border in Kisoro or the Katuna border in Kabale. The ride takes around 3 to 4 hours and offers amazing views of Rwanda’s undulating hills, landscapes, Kigezi hills, and terraced farmlands, among other things.

When to visit Bwindi impenetrable national park?

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is open all year, although the ideal time to come is during the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. Because there is less rain in the forest at this time, access roads to the park and gorilla trekking routes in the rainforest will be passable, unlike during the rainy season when the roads and trails are muddy and treacherous.
