For the 5 days Nyungwe and Akagera safari, you will tour around two parks of Rwanda and you will also engage in a city tour to some places in Kigali, including Kimironko market and the Kigali genocide memorial. You will participate in various activities in both Nyungwe and Akagera National Parks, including chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk at Nyungwe National Park and game drives and a boat ride at lake Ihema while at Akagera National Park.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

On day 1, a guide will pick you up from Kigali airport and take you for a visit to Kimironko market, where you come across a number of items made by the locals at this market and ready for sale. Some of these items include the handbags, art pieces, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, clothes and many more. Most of the items that are sold at this market also bring out the culture and traditions of the Rwandese people and as you tour this market, you will also get the opportunity to get more information about the Rwandese people from the locals.

A guide will then transfer you to the hotel for lunch in Kigali and you will be free to take pictures at the stopover point that you get to. After lunch, you will head to the Kigali genocide memorial and get to know about the information that took place in 1994 in Rwanda during the 1994 Rwanda genocide and the remains of the people that engaged in the genocide are still kept at this place. After touring and gathering information from the trusted sources at the Kigali genocide memorial, you will be transferred to Nyungwe National Park, where you will sleep that night. Upon arrival, you will get yourself a lodge to stay in, and you will have your dinner from there and retire to bed.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

On day 2, you will have breakfast at the place where you spent the night and s guide will then pick you up from the lodge and take you to the park headquarters for a briefing before you head for a chimpanzee trek. The chimpanzee trek will be conducted for several hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees and once you spot them, you will be spending an hour with them and you get to know how they behave in terms of character and how they interact with each other. The guide will also take you through the details of these primates as you take pictures of the primates for memories and after this, the guide will transfer you back to your accommodation and you will be given lunch.

After resting for a while, a guide will take you for a briefing at the park offices before you set off for a canopy walk to the bridge that is approximately 160m long and 70m high. At this bridge, you will have the amazing views of the park and Nyungwe forest, plus the birds and animals. This activity will take you about 2 hours and thereafter you will be transferred back to the lodge for your relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park for a night game drive

On day 3, you will have breakfast at Nyungwe National Park and a guide will transfer you to the park headquarters after checking out of the lodge with your luggage. You will be briefed shortly and then a guide will transfer you to Akagera National Park. At this park, you will get a lodge of your choice and spend the night. But before you reach Akagera National Park, there will be a stopover for lunch at a hotel and dinner will be offered to you while you are at the park.

Day 4: Morning game drive and a boat ride

On day 4, you will have breakfast and  be briefed at the park headquarters, where you will set off at 6:30am for a morning game drive. You will be taken for this drive with a ranger guide and you will spot the animals roaming around the park. Some of the animals that you will spot include the lions, elephants, buffaloes, bush pigs, bushbucks and many more. During the morning game drive that may take approximately 5 hours, you will also come across the birds that reside in this park, not leaving out the various vegetation types in this park and other attractions. After the morning game drive, you will be transferred back to the lodge, where you will have your lunch and rest.

Boat-Cruise

Later in the day, you will have a boat ride that will be conducted at 3pm after you have been briefed at the park headquarters. This boat ride will take approximately 1 hour and you will be able to see the aquatic animals and birds at lake Ihema of which some will be at the shores and others in the water. Some of them include the hippos and crocodiles. You will also be able to see others along the lake taking water for example the buffaloes and elephants. The guide will also elaborate more on what you will see at lake Ihema. After the boat ride, you will head to the lodge and rest till dinner time.

Day 5: Depart to Kigali airport

On day 5, after you are done with having breakfast, you will depart to Kigali airport.
